Western Herbal Medicine - Herbalism is the oldest form of medicine that uses plants in the treatment of illness. Modern Herbalism draws on thousands of years of practical heritage and empirical knowledge and integrates them with modern analytical testing.

Herbalism works from the belief that health is dynamic, and that the body possesses its own vital healing ability provided it has rest, nutrients and the right supportive herbs to promote health.

Attention is given to your current symptoms, past symptoms, health history, emotional history, diet, stresses, lifestyle and family health history. All these factors are considered in the formulation of your treatment protocol.

When to use Herbs?  Herbs are given for a specific reason.  Your herbal formula is selected and blended specifically to treat your current symptoms. Acute conditions such as upper respiratory tract infections are often treated with anti-bacterial and anti-viral herbs ,such as Echinacea spp., Thymus vulgaris (Thyme) and Andrographis.  These herbs have a direct action on pathogens and increase your natural immunity thereby shortening the length of the infection.

Herbs can also be used to prevent infection and organ depletion.  When treating a well body, there is an opportunity to enhance well-being and strengthen it against potential stressors.

'An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.'

Taking care of your body and mental health will cause you less pain, less stress and  cost you less time off work and less money than recurrent illnesses, degenerative diseases such as heart
disease, emotional/physical burnout and premature aging.

Who can use Herbs?  Anyone. babies, mothers, fathers, children, teenagers and the elderly. There will be variations in the dose and the specific herbs selected in each case, but if you can drink and swallow, you can take herbs!
